Institute of Armenian Studies

After a half-year-long preparation process, on 21th of October 2016 the Department of Armenian Studies was opened at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Piliscsaba as a department of History Institute.

Although the Department got renamed in September 2017 ("Department of Armenian and Southeastern European / Regional History Studies" so that it could mark the Department's other important fields of research and education), the Department's main orientation is still the Armenian Studies in accordance with its international cooperation.

In the spring of 2016 a cooperation agreement was signed in Yerevan between Professor Ruben Mirzakhanyan, president of Armenian State Pedagogical University, and Professor Szabolcs Szuromi, president of Pázmány Péter Catholic University. The two universities decided to cooperate in order to develop the scientific and educational collaboration, which ensures the basis of the educational system and the mobility program for the lecturers and students as well. In the autumn of 2016 the Armenian Studies Specialization was started as a specialization within the Master Studies of History. The future aim is to create a Master Degree course on Armenian Studies The language of instruction is English, Based on the international relations the Departmentof Armenian Studies at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University try to connect professors, lecturers, researchers from Armenia, as well as from the western diasporas, and to create an internationally reputable, high-level education at PPCU.
