Modern East Asia Research Group

The research group was established in 2014 to be a Hungarian centre for the academic study of the modern East-Asian and Southeast-Asian regions. At the focus of these studies stand the political, economic, social and security policy developments of the world’s most populated and most rapidly developing region.

The group carries out research connected to various current questions of modern East and Southeast Asia. The group produces working papers, publishes books, organises conferences and workshops, hosts guests lecturers from Hungary and abroad (including high-ranking diplomats from Hong-Kong and the People’s Republic of China), participates in international research, plays a role in various educational programmes at PPCU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and provides the opportunity for young talents to become engaged with academic life.

So far the group has published two books:

  • A kínai alkotmány (‘The Chinese Constitution’), ed. by Gergely Salát, Budapest, Typotex, 2015.
  • Kínai álom ‒ kínai valóság (‘Chinese Dream – Chinese Reality’), ed. by Gergely Salát, Budapest, Typotex, 2015.

Furthermore it manages an internet series of academic papers, and has recently published the eleventh on the series.
