Renaissance Research Group

At the Institute of English and American Studies of PPCU, research has been conducted regarding renaissance English literature and culture since 1999. One intersection of our members’ fields of research is the study of early Tudor literature and culture (the works of Francis Bacon and Thomas Elyot, the life and work of Thomas More, the play Locrine, William Harrison). The other common research interest is the oeuvre of the most significant writer of the English renaissance literature, William Shakespeare, particularly (but not exclusively) the subsequent reception of Shakespeare’s works, their transformation in theatre, film, and the digital sphere.

In 2016 an academic conference was organised entitled Life and death in Shakespeare’s works in joint collaboration by Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church, the Hungarian Shakespeare Committee (Magyar Shakespeare Bizottság) and Pázmány Péter Catholic University, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
