Congratulations! Bálint Kovács, the founding head of the Department of Armenian Studies at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University, was awarded with the Pro Cultura Minoritatum Hungariae award, which was handed over by Miklós Soltész, State Secretary.
The award, presented on 19 May, was given to thirteen outstanding individuals or organisations belonging to nationalities recognised in Hungary, who or which contribute to the coexistence of the peoples of the Carpathian Basin. This year's award, presented by Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Zsolt Semjén, was given to Bálint Kovács for the establishment of the Department of Armenian Studies at the PPCU, for his high level of research and publications on the Armenian nationality and for his scientific work on the cultural heritage of the Armenian Catholic Church.
The gala was attended by several students from the Department of Armenian Studies of Pázmány Péter Catholic University and Dr. Karen Jallatyan from the faculty; the celebratory atmosphere was further enhanced by the welcoming words of Dr. István Czárán - President of the National Armenian Self-Government and Prof. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Ombudsman for Nationalities.
