Please, tell us about yourself. Where are you from, what is your major, and what do you study here? Anything, that you think could be important.
Hello! My name is Kima. I am from Armenia. I did one-year history training at the Armenian studies department at PPCU and now I’m involved in a Master’s degree program in History (Armenian studies specialization) at PPCU.

Why did you choose to come to Budapest and Pázmány?
The reason why I chose PPCU is very simple.  Only Pázmány University offers an Armenian studies program in Hungary.

How do you like Pázmány Péter Catholic University so far?
The university provides various courses, which we are allowed to take.  The educational system differs from my home university. All my expectations have been fulfilled, I have a chance to work with professors from all over the world and it gives me access to new academic achievements.

Do you enjoy studying here? What is the best thing about PPCU?
Armenian studies department became my family during the past two years, especially, during these hard times. I enjoy the study process and  PPCU contributed to my personal growth.

What are the biggest differences you see between the university experience here and in your home country?
First of all, it is the possibility to manage your class schedule and exam periods. These two things are amazing here and they minimize the stress level during the semesters.

Is this your first time in Budapest? Have you travelled a lot?
Yes, it is my first time in Budapest, I haven’t traveled to Europe before, but we managed to organise a few trips before the pandemic happened. We visited Vienna, Berlin, Prague and Brussels.

How much information did you have about Hungary before?
It’s interesting, but I did not have any culture shocks here besides the fact that I live in a small Hungarian town now. Also, I had a chance to travel here before the pandemic.

What were your first impressions here?
I was very surprised how people here save their national identity, culture, and language. I am amazed by that. I think it reminds me of Armenia.

Have you tried any typical Hungarian dishes or drinks? How do you like them?
I definitely love Hungarian cuisine and I’ve tried almost all of the most popular dishes. I have even tried to cook some of them, for example, paprikás krumpli or rántott sajt. I love spicy food and Hungarian piros paprika.

Do you miss anything from your hometown?
I miss Yerevan and my family.

Have you learned any Hungarian words yet?
I have Hungarian language classes two times a week now and they help me to communicate on a basic level outside.

What is a goal of yours?
Our country has experienced a lot last year and it made me realize the importance of education, my goal is a contribution to the academic field of Armenian Studies.

What would be your message to students in your home country thinking about studying abroad?
Don’t hesitate. You really can learn Armenian history in Hungary.
