Discussions on International Archaeological Cooperation

2026.06.11.

Dr. Rafał Solecki, Vice-Dean of Student Affairs at Warsaw's Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, visited Pázmány BTK to discuss expanding joint research and encouraging student and staff exchange between the two institutions.

Dr. Solecki and faculty members from Pázmány BTK’s Archaeology Institute also touched on future cooperative research and mobility projects designed to actively involve students from both institutions.

Dr. Rafał Solecki delivered several lectures on Iron Age antiquities in modern-day Northern Poland, the networks of relations in the Baltic Sea region, and current issues in the study of Baltic peoples. Furthermore, his lectures explored the North European connections of the Mazovia, Greater Poland, and Lesser Poland regions.

Dr. Solecki’s research topic is quite relevant, focusing on Scandinavian influences in the Early Medieval Poland. In addition, the idea of a broader network extending from Asia to Europe appears to be highly probable. International literature traditionally links the latter to the ‘archaeology of the Silk Roads’- a concept that holds particular significance for Hungarian archaeology as well.

Faculty members and students at Pázmány BTK are also engaged in similar research, producing TDK (Scientific Students’ Association Conference) papers, theses, and studies on the subject in recent years.

Dr. Solecki’s visit has reaffirmed the potential for further expanding cooperation between the two institutions. Pázmány BTK remains open to welcoming more guest lecturers and students from abroad, thereby strengthening the Faculty’s international scientific network.
