2009.10.12.

Mr. Stanley Kao, Head of the Taipei Representative Office, visited the Faculty of Humanities of Pázmány Péter Catholic University on 7th October 2009, and delivered a lecture on the present situation and foreign policy of Taiwan.

With the active participation of the students, Mr. Kao first gave a brief overview on Taiwan’s geographical, economical and political background. He also explained how the neighboring states influenced Taiwan’s internal and external affairs and determined her present situation.

At the same time, it was indispensable to advert to the relations between China and Taiwan, which is one of the crucial questions stressing international policy today.

Beside Taiwan’s foreign policy and the factors influencing her international relations, Mr. Kao also emphasized the importance of human relations and humanitarian aspects.

Finally, regarding Taiwan’s further development, Mr. Kao claimed that by strengthening the sense of Taiwanese identity Taiwan would be able to face the negative political influences and challenges.

Mr. Kao’s visit, the activity of the Taipei Representative Office, and the many opportunities and exchange-programs for students all contribute to the strengthening of informal relations between Taiwan and Hungary and help to build further connections.
