Pázmány Péter University's Faculty of Humanities awarded the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa to historian John Lukács to acknowledge his work.

John Lukács, one of the most widely recognised historian of our times, was born in Hungary in 1924. After graduating from Pázmány Péter University, majoring history, he continued his studies at the University of Cambridge.

In 1946, Lukács emigrated to the United States and became a professor of history. He worked at Chestnut Hill College from 1947 to 1994, and the chair of its history department from 1947 to 1974. He has served as a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, Princeton University, La Salle University, as well as Eötvös Lóránd University, Corvinus and the Central European University. Professor Lukács is owner of the Corvin Chain Award re-established in 2000, and ex-president of the association of American Catholic historians.

John Lukács is the author of more than 400 publications, over 20 books, most of which were translated to several languages, including Hungarian. His main field of research is World War II. He also published numerous philosophical and autobiographical essays.
